Stephan Wackwitz geboren 1952 in Stuttgart, studierte Germanistik und Geschichte in München und Stuttgart. Er arbeitete als Lektor für Deutsch am King's College in London, danach für das Goethe-Institut in Frankfurt am Main, Neu Delhi, Tokio und München. Seit 1999 leitet er das Goethe-Institut in Krakau. Neben zahlreichen Aufsätzen sind von ihm die Bücher "Kleine Reisen" und "Tokyo. Beim Näherkommen durch die Straßen. Essays", "Walkers Gleichung. Eine deutsche Erzählung aus den Tropen", "Die Wahrheit über Sancho Pansa" und die Monographie "Friedrich Hölderlin" erschienen.
